Hey there, just joined! I thought I would share this information with y'all in case you or anyone you know might be interested...

If you are a woman who is interested in taking a self defense course, and you are in the Raleigh NC area, you are in luck!

Right here in the Raleigh area an American Women's Self Defense Association (AWSDA) inspired course is offered on a regular basis.

The classes are taught by an AWSDA certified instructor and a group of knowledgable volunteers (myself included). The course is four hours long, and is comprised of aproximately one half lecture and one half hands on technique training.

We typically open up a class once a month, and we also offer Intermediate & Advanced courses for return students. We recommend that students be of at least dating age, since rape prevention is a main focus of this course. However, there is no real age restriction for this course - past students of ranged from 14 to over 60!!

These courses are completely nonprofit, and all of the instructors are there because they want to help... not because it is an extra paycheck! All class fees go towards location rentals and sponsering a class to any victims of abuse.

For further information, and to receive a notice for when the next class is going to be held, please send an email to bushidowsd@hotmail.com or visit OUR WEBSITE!

This course is stock full of wonderful information, so please don't be shy in contacting us! Come out and bring a friend, sister, or mother... (again, this is a course for women only). Not only will you leave feeling more confident about your ability to protect yourself, you will also have an unforgetable experience!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi there. I just joined this group because I'm female and I want a gun. I've never been raped, but I was robbed and assaulted in my own home last year. Right now I sleep with a knife by my bed. I am a peace advocate, but I know that the rest of the world isn't and now that my idealism has been shattered, it's time to protect myself.

Any ideas on a good place to learn to shoot and to properly take care of a weapon?

I am a 20 year old bisexual female from the state of Indiana in the United States. I receive newletters from the Human Rights Campaign and was recently informed of a bill introduced to the U.S. Congress that would repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy currently enforced among homosexuals in the United States Military. Basically, any known homosexual will be prevented from joining the military or discharged from the military simply because they are gay. This new bill, called the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, would do away with "don't ask, don't tell" and institute complete tolerance of homosexuals in the military.

I wrote to my state representative, voicing my opinion on the bill, and asking him to support it. My request was denied. Apparently, my congressman believes that "homosexual activity is prejudicial to the good order and discipline of the armed services. For that reason, [he] oppose[s] any efforts that would allow known homosexuals to enter into or continue service in the military."

Now, I'm not a naive person, and I did not expect miracles. But I do believe that this world is gradually changing. As homosexual, bisexual, and transgender people are being more open about their sexuality, we are starting to be accepted for who and what we are. Change will not happen in a day... it may not even happen in a decade.

However, we need to let our voices be heard now, so that we can start changing the future one person at a time. For this reason, I'm asking you, whoever you are, wherever you're from, and whatever your sexuality is, to write to the United States Congress in support of this bill. It may not be passed and made into law, but at least we will let the U.S. government know that gay, bi, and transgender people everywhere are willing to stand up for their rights.

If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading, and please show your support for all homosexuals in the military by writing a letter today.

Do you use a wireless router or network card? Do you have an X10 wireless cam setup in your house?

Did you know other people can access them from outside your home or office?

You need to read this now.

Subject:art project

hello everyone. i am writing to describe an art project i am just starting, and also ask for some help. i have for a long time wanted to begin some sort of rape project that could hopefully touch a broader audience about the subject and also raise awareness. i am a photography major but i work with mixed media, as well.

the basic layout at this stage is to have a polaroid with a small, square piece of text typed out on white paper underneath. the text, for example, would say something like this:

'she was being cared for in a russian orphanage. sometime between the ages of one and three she was sexually abused. consequently, she acts out violently and has uncontrollable rage. she was prescribed zoloft at the age of seven.'

the design of the project will change with time. my initial skteches have been to place the polaroids onto a piece of painted matboard and attach the text directly underneath.

the problem is that i would like for this to become a huge, ongoing project. i am beginning by using people i know who have experienced rape or sexual abuse, but there are many more whom i don't know personally. this is where you can help. would you be willing to share a small portion of your story and a polaroid of yourself? it can be annonymously donated to the project, if that would make anyone more comfortable. but i would like to collect as many of these as humanly possible and, once it is all gathered, create a unique and artistic way to help people in the world WAKE UP about this problem.

if you or anyone you know would be interested, please please please email me at: kristina@revolutionphotos.com

thank you!!

**it doesn't have to be rape. it could be anything that involves feeling afraid sexually, because no matter what it's still damaging. also, please link this to your journal if you think that would help to spread the word. this is for women AND men. also, if their is a need for confidentiality, perhaps participants could design masks or a face covering in some way so a picture could still be included?
